Where to place a vending machine in Egypt: a 3-minute guide

The best place for a vending machine in Egypt is a spot that the same people pass several times a day and where they wait: an office floor with 150 or more staff, a gym with a busy evening peak, a clinic waiting area, a campus building or a mall entrance. Floor area does not decide it. Footfall, dwell time and repeat visits do.

What makes a vending machine location work

Three things decide whether a machine earns: how many people pass it, how long they stay nearby, and how often the same people come back. A building with 200 staff who are there five days a week beats a street corner with random traffic, because the same person buys a coffee at 10 am and a snack at 4 pm, every working day. Dwell time matters as much as footfall. People buy where they wait, queue or take a break.

The five site types that work in Egypt

  • Offices and business parks: 150 or more staff on site. Coffee and snacks in the morning, cold drinks and fresh food at lunch. New Cairo, Sheikh Zayed, Smart Village, Maadi and 6th of October City have the densest clusters.

  • Gyms and sports clubs: an evening peak from about 6 to 10 pm. Water, supplements, protein bars and recovery drinks sell between sets, with no extra staff on the floor.

  • Clinics and hospitals: waiting areas where people sit for half an hour or more. Water, snacks, hygiene items and phone accessories.

  • Universities and schools: thousands of students moving between lectures. Snacks, cold drinks and fresh food, with the busiest minutes around breaks.

  • Malls, hotels and compounds: entrances and lobbies with late-night traffic. Travel essentials, beauty products and gifts sell when the shops are closed.

Where inside the building the machine should stand

The right building can still hide the machine in the wrong corner. Put it on the main path, not down a corridor: next to the lifts, the reception, the break area or the gym floor. People should see it from where they walk and reach it within 30 seconds. It needs a power socket within two metres and a mobile or Wi-Fi signal, because every COSMO machine takes cards and contactless and reports each sale live. Keep chilled and fresh-food machines out of direct sun.

Signs a spot will underperform

  • A subsidised canteen or a free coffee corner next door.

  • A building that empties at weekends and has light traffic on weekdays.

  • A gym with no evening crowd, or a clinic that sees one patient at a time by appointment.

  • A machine placed for the landlord's convenience instead of on the visitor's path.

Test the location before you commit

You do not need to guess. Rent a machine for the first term, keep the product mix flexible, and watch the dashboard: sales per day, the hours that peak, and what sells out. After four to eight weeks the numbers tell you whether to buy the machine, add a second one, or move it. COSMO moves a machine rather than leave you carrying a site that does not perform.

Common questions

Can COSMO place a machine in my building for free? No. COSMO does not do free placement or revenue share. You rent, buy, or own the machine and have COSMO operate it for a fixed monthly fee.

How much space does a vending machine need? About one square metre of floor and a standard power socket. Compact machines such as Cosmo Mini mount on a wall.
